WSET Level 2 Award in Wines

Description

The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines is the perfect wine course for beginners wishing to learn about a wide range of grapes and styles, as well as those seeking to build on the introductory knowledge gained in level 1 Award in Wine.

You’ll gain enviable knowledge of the principal and regionally important grape varieties of the world, the regions in which they are grown, and the styles of wine they produce.

Topics covered include:
- How to taste and describe wine using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine®(SAT)
- How environmental factors, grape-growing, winemaking and maturation options influence the style and quality of wines made from eight principal grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio/Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Syrah/Shiraz
- The style and quality of wines from 22 regionally important grape varieties produced in over 70 geographical indications (GIs) around the world
- How grape varieties and winemaking processes influence key styles of sparkling wines & fortified wines
- Key labelling terms used to indicate origin, style and quality
- Principles and processes involved in the storage and service of wine
- Principles of food and wine pairing.

This qualification has a minimum requirement of 28 hours of study time, including class times and a minimum of 11 hours of personal study and revision.
The qualification also includes a multiple choice, closed book 1-hour examination.

  • There are no entry requirements for this course however participants must be over 18 years.
  • Online Access to WSET's Online Classroom for one year (where you can participate in online lessons, activities, tests and forums), and a dedicated online tutor who is available to answer your questions during the course.
    Duration: Five weeks self-guided study to be completed around your schedule.
    Private study: At least six hours a week.
    Samples: Wines not included. We recommend you taste a minimum of 14 wines and you‘ll get guidance on what styles to taste.
    There will be additional charges incurred for exam resits at a cost of $210.
    All classes are delivered in English, and the assessment requires your answers to be hand-written, therefore a good level of written and spoken English is very beneficial.
    You must be at least 18 years old to enrol on any of our courses.

Short Course Delivery Locations Some short courses can provide accreditation for industry-specific registration, while others merely provide skills and knowledge in the subject area. Concession prices are available for some courses.
